CHAPTER 42

JC DIDN’T REPLY to her message either. His plan was to call her and set up a time. He was going to push for a sleepover. Hopefully she would let him. All he had to do now was think of something to tell Welma. That’s where he was sleeping every night so he had to have a good explanation for being out all night with her car. He thought about calling her, then changed his mind. He was just going to leave a letter and she could call him later and ask questions.

By then it would be too late, or he could just not answer and say he was asleep, then explain in the morning. If everything worked out like he planned, he would have Kelly wrapped around his finger by tomorrow. It was almost like she already had him. He really liked Kelly a lot. So what if she wasn’t giving him money. He saw past all that. Even though she was white, he still wanted to have a family with her. This was the first white girl he ever liked this much. It was like he was hooked at the first date. Some people call it love at first sight.

He clicked back to check his next message. It was Marvin. Is he gay or something, why he keep sending me messages? he thought.

What’s up man? I’ve been waiting on you to holla at me so we can hang out with some girls. I ain’t no crazy person, I’m not gay and I got money. You seem like a cool dude, that’s why I’m tryna hang out with you. Get back with me soon. “Marvin”

JC didn’t reply. He clicked back to his home page to do some editing. He wanted to change his music. He still had that “Separated” song on there that he stole from Vanessa’s page. He clicked on edit then went to music to look for an artist. He typed in a local rapper from Pontiac he had heard about.

JC bobbed his head to the rhythm of the beat, singing along with him. He got out of the chair and let the whole song play and repeat itself as he got in and out of the shower. He sprayed his cologne on, then took off his wave cap, revealing his well-kept braids that hung to his back. Time was moving fast as he was still listening to music off the computer he had downloaded. He walked out of the room dialing Kelly’s number.

“Hi, JC.”

He laughed, “What up baby?”

“Nothing, just getting ready to go a few places. Did you get my message?”

“Yeah, I got it, that sounds like a good plan. What time you wanna make that happen?”

“Maybe 6:00 p.m. or something.”

“Ok that works, what are you cookin'?”

“How does steak and potatoes sound with mac and cheese?”

“Mmm, that sounds perfect.”

They both laughed.

“Ok. Well, call me later, I'mma go get everything together,” she said.

“Ok talk to you later.”

Kelly hung the phone up and resumed talking to one of her drivers.
